Results you can trust, and show.
The published ETABS and SAFE verification problems run as tests on every release. zspan was also compared against closed-form solutions and OpenSees, an independent research-grade finite-element program.

The same problems ETABS is verified on.
CSI publishes the problems ETABS is verified against, with theoretical results or refined SAP2000 meshes as the reference. We rebuilt every linear one in zspan.
| Problem | Reference | ETABS | zspan |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 · Plane frame with span loads: moments and shears | Theory | exact | exact |
| 2 · Three-storey frame: periods and mode shapes | Theory | exact | within 0.1 % |
| 3 · ASCE 7 equivalent static storey shears | Hand calculation | exact | within 0.01 % |
| 4, 5, 8 · 3-D frames and braced building: periods, modes, spectrum response | Theory / published | within 0.3 % | within 0.3 % |
| 6 · Nine-storey, ten-bay frame: eigenvalues | Published | within 0.1 % | identical to ETABS |
| 15 · Shear walls, coupled walls, wall on columns, E and flanged walls: lateral displacements and twists (24 values) | SAP2000 refined mesh | stiffer in 20 of 24, by up to 22 % | 17 of 24 within 1 %, 23 within 4 %, median 0.3 %* |
*All values use zspan's default shell walls. The one value outside 4 % is a 0.0005-radian twist published to one significant figure.
Slab design, checked the same way.
CSI's SAFE verification problems for plate analysis, punching shear, slab flexure and cracked deflection, rebuilt in zspan on SAFE's own meshes. Thin-plate results are shown; the thick-plate versions agree within 5%.

Every release passes these first.
Each deploy runs the benchmark problems above as tests that fail outside their tolerance, together with the unit-test suites. Largest deviation is from the reference answer (for SAFE's point-load example, from SAFE on the same mesh).

A hand-check report with every analysis
Beyond release testing, each analysis recomputes the main load-case totals independently of the solver (gravity totals, code base shear, wind pressures, spectrum scaling) and checks drift, deflection, uplift and wall cracking against their limits, citing the clause for each.
